ToggleHotel Viu Milan Review: A Stylish Luxury Base in Milan
Milan is often overlooked by travellers rushing towards Lake Como, the Dolomites or the Amalfi Coast, yet Italy’s fashion capital deserves more than a brief overnight stop. With world-class dining, impressive architecture and some of the country’s finest shopping, Milan is a city that rewards those willing to spend a few days exploring beyond the Duomo.
For visitors seeking a contemporary luxury hotel, Hotel Viu Milan offers one of the city’s most polished experiences. Situated in the emerging Porta Volta district, the hotel combines modern design, spacious accommodation and one of Milan’s most desirable rooftop pools. Whilst many luxury hotels in Milan focus on historic grandeur, Hotel Viu takes a different approach, offering a sleek and modern interpretation of Italian luxury.
The result is a hotel that feels fresh, sophisticated and perfectly suited to a modern city break.
Best For: Couples, luxury city-break travellers, business travellers and those looking for a hotel with exceptional leisure facilities.
Location
8/10
Hotel Viu occupies an enviable position in Porta Volta, one of Milan’s most interesting and rapidly evolving neighbourhoods. Located between Chinatown and the elegant streets of Brera, the hotel enjoys a quieter setting than many of its competitors closer to the Duomo, whilst remaining within easy reach of the city’s major attractions.
What stood out during my stay was how well balanced the location felt. You are close enough to explore Milan entirely on foot if you enjoy walking, yet far enough removed from the busiest tourist areas to enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere at the end of the day. The surrounding streets are filled with excellent cafés, restaurants and local businesses, giving the area a more authentic feel than some of the city’s heavily visited districts.
Approximate walking times to key attractions:
- Brera District: 15 minutes
- Piazza Gae Aulenti: 15 minutes
- Sforza Castle: 20 minutes
- Teatro alla Scala: 25 minutes
- Duomo di Milano: 30 minutes
- Milano Centrale: 10 minutes by taxi
For travellers looking to combine sightseeing with a more local experience of Milan, Hotel Viu strikes an excellent balance.
Style And Character
8/10
Hotel Viu immediately stands apart from many of Milan’s luxury hotels thanks to its contemporary architecture. The striking façade, covered in greenery and framed by glass, feels more modern international luxury than traditional Italian palace hotel.
Inside, the design continues this theme. Natural materials, warm lighting and carefully curated furnishings create an atmosphere that feels sophisticated without becoming intimidating. There is a genuine sense of calm throughout the property, something that is not always easy to achieve in a city hotel.
The public spaces are particularly impressive. The lobby, bar and rooftop areas feel like destinations in their own right, whilst the overall aesthetic manages to remain timeless rather than simply following current design trends.
For travellers who appreciate contemporary luxury over old-world grandeur, Hotel Viu delivers exceptionally well.
Service and Facilities
8/10
Service throughout the hotel is polished, professional and efficient. Staff are welcoming without being overly formal and are clearly accustomed to dealing with an international clientele. Requests are handled promptly and check-in and check-out processes are smooth and uncomplicated.
Where Hotel Viu really excels is in the quality of its facilities. Whilst many city hotels focus solely on accommodation, Hotel Viu offers guests spaces where they can genuinely relax and unwind after a day exploring Milan.

The rooftop pool deserves particular mention. During the warmer months it becomes one of the most attractive places in the city to spend an afternoon, offering impressive views across Milan’s skyline.
Rooms
8/10
Rooms at Hotel Viu are spacious, comfortable and exceptionally well designed. In a city where hotel rooms can often feel compact, the generous proportions immediately stand out.
The design follows the same contemporary approach seen throughout the hotel. Large windows allow plenty of natural light, whilst the neutral colour palette creates a calm and relaxing environment. Furnishings feel premium throughout and there is a clear emphasis on comfort rather than simply aesthetics.
The beds are excellent, the bathrooms are spacious and the soundproofing is particularly impressive. Even in a busy city like Milan, the rooms remain remarkably peaceful.
Higher room categories offer impressive views across the city skyline, whilst suites provide substantial additional space for longer stays.
Food and Drink
8/10
Breakfast at Hotel Viu provides an excellent start to the day. Guests can expect a generous selection of pastries, fresh fruit, hot dishes and quality Italian coffee, all presented to a high standard.
The hotel’s restaurant offers refined Italian cuisine in an elegant setting, whilst the rooftop terrace becomes an especially appealing venue during the summer months. Service is attentive and the overall dining experience reflects the hotel’s wider commitment to quality.
That said, Milan is one of Europe’s great food cities. Whilst dining within the hotel is undoubtedly enjoyable, many guests will understandably choose to spend their evenings exploring the countless restaurants scattered throughout Brera, Navigli and the wider city.
As a result, Hotel Viu provides an excellent food and beverage offering without necessarily becoming the primary reason to stay.
Value For Money 8/10
Luxury accommodation in Milan commands a premium, particularly during fashion events, exhibitions and peak summer travel periods. Hotel Viu is no exception.
Average nightly rates generally range between US$300 and US$700 per night, depending on season and room category.
Whilst this places the property firmly within the luxury bracket, the overall experience largely justifies the cost. The rooftop pool alone sets the hotel apart from many competitors, whilst the spacious rooms, quality facilities and high service standards contribute to a stay that feels appropriately premium.
For travellers seeking a luxury city hotel rather than a simple place to sleep, Hotel Viu offers good value within Milan’s competitive hotel market.
Access for guests with disabilities?
As a modern hotel, Hotel Viu is generally well equipped for guests with accessibility requirements. Lift access, step-free public areas and spacious communal facilities make navigating the property straightforward.
Guests with specific requirements should contact the hotel directly prior to booking to confirm room suitability.
Family-friendly?
Whilst Hotel Viu is primarily geared towards couples, business travellers and luxury city-break visitors, families are well catered for. Larger room categories and suites provide additional space, whilst the rooftop pool is likely to be a popular feature for older children.
The overall atmosphere remains sophisticated and relatively adult-focused, meaning families seeking dedicated children’s facilities may prefer alternative options.
Final Verdict
Hotel Viu Milan successfully delivers what many luxury city hotels aspire to achieve but often miss. It provides a genuine sense of place whilst simultaneously offering the comfort, facilities and service standards expected from a premium property.
The location strikes an excellent balance between convenience and tranquillity, the rooms are among the most comfortable I have experienced in Milan, and the rooftop pool remains one of the city’s standout hotel facilities. Combined with contemporary design and professional service, the result is a property that feels both luxurious and approachable.
Whilst there are more historic luxury hotels in Milan, travellers seeking a modern alternative will find plenty to like here. Whether you are visiting for a long weekend, a business trip or simply using Milan as the starting point for a wider Italian adventure, Hotel Viu provides an excellent base from which to explore the city.
