Alpine Zen at Its Best: Why Boutique Hotel Planlim in Ortisei Won Me Over

OVERALL RATING
0

Boutique Hotel Planlim is a minimalist, design-focused gem tucked in a quiet pocket of Ortisei. It’s best suited for couples, solo travellers, and mountain lovers looking for a clean, calm retreat with thoughtful interiors and a top-tier location.

There’s a rare sense of stillness here — the kind that’s hard to find even in the Alps. If you’re coming for hiking, skiing or a digital detox, this place nails the brief. I’ve stayed in a lot of hotels around the Dolomites, and Planlim is, personally, one of my all-time favourites.

Location
9/10

The hotel’s perfectly positioned just outside Ortisei’s buzzy centre, giving you walkable access to restaurants, shops and the Seceda cable car, while remaining tucked away enough to hear the birds, not traffic.

Expect forest views, crisp mountain air, and zero stress.

Style And Character
9/10

Planlim hits a rare aesthetic balance: elegant but not cold, modern but not soulless. Pale timber, curated furniture, floor-to-ceiling glass — it’s the kind of place that makes you want to whisper and slow down.

This isn’t kitsch alpine nostalgia. It’s Scandi-inspired serenity, with just enough local flair to root you in the Dolomites.

Service and Facilities
8.5/10

Service is minimal but genuine. There’s no forced small talk, no overbearing hosts — just friendly faces when you need them.

Rooms
9/10

The rooms are effortlessly calming. Think clean lines, neutral tones, oak floors and oversized windows that flood the space with alpine light.

My balcony overlooked pine forests with just the faint hum of Ortisei below — bliss. The bathroom was spotless with modern fittings and a brilliant rain shower. Yes, there’s no mini-bar or kettle, but honestly, I didn’t miss them. It felt deliberate, pared back – a stay that encourages you to unplug.

Food and Drink
8.5/10

Breakfast is quietly excellent. Served in a sleek dining space with Dolomite views, it features:

  • Artisanal breads and pastries

  • Local cheeses and speck

  • Yoghurt, fruit, eggs on request

  • Excellent Italian coffee (yes, they’ll make a second without asking)

Small bar and restaurant. Which is fine — Ortisei’s centre is five minutes away and full of great dinner options. The vibe is “fuel up, get out, enjoy the mountains”.

Value For Money
9/10

Rooms range from USD $190–$300/night, depending on season. For this level of style, location and design detail in Ortisei? It’s great value.

You’re not paying for gimmicks — you’re paying for peace, location, and good taste.

Access for guests with disabilities?

There is a lift and level access throughout most of the hotel, though the rooms may not be configured for those requiring adapted facilities.

Family-friendly?

Not aimed at families, but nothing’s stopping you. There are no child-specific amenities or play areas — it’s better suited to quiet couples’ escapes than prams and playdates.
